Mercedes B-Class F-Cell Heading for California

October 7, 2010 | By Hydro Kevin Kantola | Filed in: Hydrogen Cars.

It was only a matter of time until Daimler followed suit in the U. S. Worldwide Daimler has the largest fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles and now some of those vehicles are coming to California.

In December 2009, I had talked about how Daimler was going into serial production of 200 of its Mercedes B-Class F-Cell hydrogen fueled automobiles. Some of these have vehicles have already rolled out in Germany in the Spring of 2010.

Now Daimler wants to follow in the footsteps of Honda and General Motors and bring some of these fuel cell vehicles to the Los Angeles area (plus San Francisco). Honda decided to build around 200 Clarity FCVs and lease its vehicle in the Los Angeles area because this is where the highest density of hydrogen fueling stations currently exist in the U. S. GM with its Project Driveway test drivers decided the same.

According to the Detroit News, Daimler has started taking orders in these two California cities for the lease of its Mercedes B-Class F-Cell. The price tag is a bit high at $600 to $800 per month, but I can attest as someone who had driven this car about 6 months ago, it is a sweet ride that will turn heads.
