It’s the 1st ever National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, October 8th, 2015 – Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes! By unanimous consent of S.Res.217, the U. S. Senate has declared this a day to celebrate hydrogen and fuel cells.

Sponsored by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) this resolution was introduced on July 8, 2015 and was made an official resolution on September 29, 2015.

The date of 10/08 was chosen in reference to the atomic weight of hydrogen, 1.008.

According to the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day website, “In recognition of the benefits of fuel cell and hydrogen energy technology, on October 8th, industry, friends, and supporters are celebrating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day to help raise awareness of a clean energy technology that is here now. October 8th was chosen as a reference to the of the atomic weight of Hydrogen, 1.008 …

“… Hydrogen can now be generated from a range of domestic sources. More than 150,000 fuel cell systems are in operation right now. Hundreds of businesses in North America are powering facilities, warehouses, and data centers with fuel cells now. Hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles are hitting the nation’s roads now, and thousands more are coming. More than 50 retail hydrogen stations are open or under construction in California now, the start of a nationwide network.”

This day of recognition has been spearheaded by the industry-leading Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) which is the number one trade association for the fuel cell and hydrogen energy industry, dedicated to the commercialization of fuel cells and hydrogen energy technologies.

Of note, the October 8 holiday shares the same day with a few other celebrations as well:

Alvin C. York Day (highly decorated WWI soldier also known as Sergeant York)

National Depression Screening Day (2nd Thursday)

National Pierogy Day (food-related holiday)

World Octopus Day

World Sight Day (2nd Thursday)

So, get out there and shout it from your rooftops, share it with your friends and family, neighbors and even naysayers that today is “National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day!”

  1. Hydrogen is the only true forever fuel and it is totally recyclable.
when you split any kind of water into hydrogen you have an endless
supply of pollution free fuel and fresh potable drinking water as a
free by-product. My fifty nine years of research have proven this
    as well as my patents.
