Southern California has opened yet another hydrogen fueling station that it hopes will one day lead the march along the hydrogen highway system. Santa Monica will host the newest station along with older hydrogen stations hosted by Burbank, Santa Ana, Diamond Bar, Ontario and Riverside, to name a few, under the authority of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD).
Currently, California hosts 22 hydrogen-fueling stations for 143 hydrogen vehicles and another 15 stations are planned in the near future. At this time last year, California’s hydrogen fueling station map showed 15 hydrogen stations for 65 hydrogen vehicles and another 9 hydrogen fuel stations planned, so much progress has been made in building the hydrogen highway network from June 2005 to June 2006 throughout California.
Santa Monica’s HF-150 hydrogen fueling station is one of 12 manufactured by Air Products Inc. throughout California, with an additional 28 stations distributed to other places within the U. S. and abroad. Hydrogen is being generated on-site and on-demand by a HOGEN(R) 6M Electrolyzer integrated into the fueling station. Hydrogen fuel is available for both hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cell vehicles.
In other news, Air Products Inc., has also just opened up their first Canadian hydrogen production facility near Edmonton, Alberta expected to generate 71 million standard-cubic-feet-per-day (MMSCFD).
