Hyundai in Chino, CA to Get Public H2 Fueling Station

August 6, 2013 | By Hydro Kevin Kantola | Filed in: Hydrogen Fueling Stations.

Approximately 37 miles from where I live in San Bernardino County, California the first public hydrogen fueling station in the county is being built. The opening of the new station is expected to be in the Fall of 2014.

Hydrogen Frontier received a $3 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to build the H2 fueling station at the current location of a private station at the head office of Hyundai Motor Corporation in Chino CA.

Hydrogen Frontier has partnered with Powertech and ITM Power for the building of the station. ITM Power will be supplying the rapid response electrolyzer unit. The new unit will be able to supply up to 100 kilograms of H2 per day at either 5,000 psi or 10,000 psi.

The station will electrolyze water in order to create hydrogen. The energy for the electrolysis will come from 100-percent renewable resources.

When the station opens in 2014, I’ll be there, taking photos for this blog. So stay tuned!
