Scientists at the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky have discovered that a common semiconductor along with a cheap metal alloy can use sunlight to split water to create hydrogen. According to the University of Kentucky, “Using state-of-the-art theoretical computations, the UK-UofL team demonstrated that an alloy formed by a 2 percent substitution of [...]

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about how ships contribute more pollutants to the atmosphere worldwide than do cars. These barges and container ships on the high seas burn a cheap, sludgy form of diesel fuel called “bunker oil”. At that time I suggested an immediate solution was for these ships to switch to [...]

Today, a Proton OnSite FuelGen C30 proton exchange membrane electrolyzer will arrive at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) facility outside of Honolulu, Hawaii. The PEM electrolyzer will use the same platform as the SunHydro fueling station at the Wallingford, Connecticut office. According to Proton OnSite, “The electrolyzer at JBPHH will support the tri-service Hawaii [...]

I’ve talked a handful of times in the past about using a chemical carrier for hydrogen such as ammonia borane (AB) as perhaps an easier method in which to build an infrastructure around and get the needed H2 gas to fuel cells. Apparently a group of researchers at USC in California had the same thought [...]

It’s true that Germany has been a beehive of activity these past 5 years when it comes to developing hydrogen cars, vehicles and the supporting infrastructure. Germany has far outpaced development of the same in the United States and Japan, its two closest competitors. And now Germany is doing it again by introducing four Mercedes-Benz [...]

I last talked about the Mercedes-Benz F-Cell Hybrid Roadster back in March 2009, but it’s time for an update. Sometimes, hydrogen fuel cell prototypes never see the light of day after they are created. This old school FCV is different. The Mercedes Fuel Cell Roadster was recently exhibited at the Pebble Beach, California Concours d’Elegance. [...]

Rarely do I read an article that makes my blood boil. But this article by the Mail Online has done just that. While a number of us are pushing for hydrogen cars or at least cleaner standards for all cars there are gross polluting ships at sea that are spewing out more sulfur into the [...]

Germany is once again finding a way to take the lead when it comes to developing the European Union Hydrogen Highway and doing it with style. At the Stuttgart Airport in Germany, a Mercedes B-Class F-Cell hydrogen fuel cell car is leading airplanes down the taxi ways preparing them for take-offs and bringing them in [...]

Fountain Valley, California which is about 60 miles from where I live is getting a new hydrogen fueling station today. And this hydrogen fueling station is a little different than the others in the U. S. While the others use hydrogen created from reforming natural gas or electrolyzing water, the one in Fountain Valley will [...]
